About US

Club Kaos was founded with a clear purpose: to create real opportunities for young athletes to enter and thrive in the volleyball club scene. It has since developed the original sister organisation, The Volleyball Academy, into a competitive club offering a wide range of support to athletes of all levels. With Competitive Adult and Women's teams, and development opportunities for younger players.

After moving to Wellington from the States, Josette Delgado recognised a gap in the local volleyball scene. There were limited opportunities for players, particularly young athletes, to develop and transition into club volleyball. She began by training adults, founding The Volleyball Academy (TVA) in 2023. As interest grew, TVA expanded into youth development, offering coaching for players from Years 3–12 and building a strong foundation for the sport.

However, there was still no clear pathway into club volleyball.

In 2024, Club Kaos was established to bridge that gap. Designed as an entry point into the club scene, Kaos provides athletes with the opportunity to compete, grow, and experience team volleyball from an earlier age. Building the club from the ground up, Jo took on multiple roles as president, coach, and player to bring this vision to life.

The club has grown rapidly. In its first year, Kaos launched a women’s team and two men’s teams with around 70 total members. By 2025, a second women’s team was added, and membership rose to approximately 130. Today, the club has grown to approximately 200 members. This growth has been matched with on-court success, including a second-place finish in Division 3 for the Women’s A team in 2025.

At its core, Club Kaos is built on being team-focused and valuing the journey over the outcome. We prioritise development, connection, and a genuine love for the game.

Our Values

Team-First Mentality

We put the team above the individual, building a culture grounded in trust, accountability, communication, and unity on and off the court.

At Club Kaos, success is defined by collective growth. We foster an environment where players are committed not only to improving themselves, but to lifting those around them. We believe the strongest teams are made up of individuals who take responsibility for each other, communicate openly, and work towards a shared purpose.

This team-first approach extends beyond competition. Many of our senior athletes give back by volunteering their time to coach and support younger players, both within the club and across school programmes.

Club Kaos was founded with a wider vision: to grow and strengthen volleyball in the Wellington region. Our commitment to giving back is at the heart of our identity, ensuring that what we build as a club benefits not just our teams, but the wider volleyball community.

Respect for All

We show respect to players, coaches, officials, and volunteers, recognising that every individual plays an essential role in our community. Respect is the foundation of how we train, compete, and connect with one another.

At Club Kaos, we actively value and celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and personal identities within our club. We believe that embracing what makes each person unique strengthens our teams and enriches our environment. By creating a space where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued, we foster a genuine sense of belonging.

This commitment to respect shapes our behaviour on and off the court. We promote open communication, empathy, and understanding, ensuring that everyone feels supported and included. Through this, we build not only stronger athletes, but a more connected, inclusive, and respectful volleyball community.

Commitment to Growth

We are dedicated to continuous improvement—both as athletes and as coaches—embracing challenges and striving to get better every day.

At Club Kaos, growth is intentional and ongoing. We invest in the development of our coaches by creating opportunities to learn alongside experienced and professional coaches, building their confidence, knowledge, and leadership. Many of our coaches are also actively working towards or hold local referee certifications, deepening their understanding of the game and strengthening the wider volleyball community.

For our athletes, development is a key focus. Through initiatives such as Saturday development sessions, we provide additional opportunities for players to refine their skills, build game understanding, and grow in a supportive environment.

We believe that a commitment to growth means embracing challenges, learning from experience, and continually striving for improvement—both individually and as a club.

Positive Learning Environment

We create a space where players feel safe to learn, take risks, and develop their skills with confidence.

Volleyball is a game that demands resilience—mistakes are inevitable and essential to growth. At Club Kaos, we embrace this by normalising errors as part of the learning process, encouraging players to take risks without fear of failure.

We are committed to supporting our athletes through both their successes and their setbacks. Wins are celebrated, and challenges are met with encouragement, guidance, and reflection. By creating a positive and supportive environment, we help players build confidence, resilience, and a genuine love for the game.

Supporting the Holistic Athlete

We believe great athletes are supported beyond just their performance on the court. At Club Kaos, we value the whole person and recognise that physical development, mental wellbeing, and life outside of volleyball are all interconnected.

Our approach is centred on creating an environment where athletes feel supported, balanced, and understood. We encourage healthy habits, open communication, and self-awareness, helping players develop confidence, resilience, and perspective alongside their volleyball skills.
